TORPIGNATTARA

Torpignattara is a neighbourhood, a shared and stratified space in the south-eastern part of Rome. Its western border is marked by the Roma – Napoli railway and it stretches along the via Casilina until the Centocelle Airport. Torpignattara gets its name from Torre delle Pignatte and is located in an urban area bordering the historical centre, among late imperial ruins and public housing built in the 1930s. Voices coming from this neighbourhood have been multiple and varied. One of the characteristics that has arisen is that of a neighbourhood where involuntary heterotopias are created, where meaningful habitats are created, where deep intercultural ties are formed. Yamila said: “When I came to live here, I immediately found myself at home, and I’ve been to many neighbourhoods in Rome! It reminds me of my country, neighbours help each other, Torpignattara is my second home!”
